The Attack on the Endar Spire occurred in 3,956 BBY as Darth Malak set a trap for the young Jedi Bastila Shan over the skies of Taris, along a major hyperspace lane. Malak positioned his flagship, the Leviathan in orbit around Taris. When Bastila's ship, the Endar Spire passed by, it was pulled out of hyperspace and ambushed by squadrons of Sith fighters, followed by and advanced boarding party of Sith troopers and Dark Jedi, led by Malak's own apprentice, Darth Bandon. Little did Malak know, however, that an amnesiac Revan was on that very ship, at the start of a journey that would eventually lead to Malak's demise.
[edit] Revan's return
A newly recruited soldier for the Republic awoke in his bed into utter chaos. The ship, which he could barely remember, was being attacked by Sith forces and he was being told to grab his gun and save a woman he had never heard of. This new recruit was indeed the former Dark Lord Revan, suffering from amnesia. After a reprimand from Trask Ulgo, a Republic soldier, who reminded him of the oath that he swore, or at least thought he swore, Revan complied, and the two fought their way to the ship's bridge.

After fighting their way to the bridge, under orders from Captain Carth Onasi, Revan and Trask found it empty, save a few Sith troopers. Realizing that with Bastila gone, the Sith would make no hesitation to blast the Spire to space dust, they headed for the escape pods in the starboard section of the ship. As they left the bridge, however, the two were ambushed by Malak's apprentice Darth Bandon. In order to save Revan, Trask bravely faced the Sith Lord alone, and was ultimately killed, but bought enough time for Revan and Carth to escape in the last pod to Taris.
