Attack of the Phantom

Attack of the Phantom is an illegally distributed re-edit of Attack of the Clones, made by the same "Phantom Editor", Mike J. Nichols, who produced the infamous The Phantom Edit.

The re-edit, like the The Phantom Edit, rearranges and deletes scenes in order to deal with criticisms commonly leveled at Attack of the Clones by fans, particularly the romance between Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala.

The cuts are far more aggressive than the cuts in the Phantom Edit, reducing the film's running time by almost a third. Most of the cuts come from the early scenes in the movie, with the entire subplot of Obi-Wan Kenobi's search for Kamino largely removed, as well as Obi-Wan's initial fight with Jango Fett being greatly truncated in order to save suspense for the later fight scenes in the film.

The film also includes other, more subtle alterations to the film, such as altering the soundtrack and inserting reaction shots into various scenes. The bootleg Attack of the Phantom DVD includes commentary and pop-ups from Nichols illustrating his decisions (such as illustrating his decision to cut Captain Typho's "I think we're safe" line as being a "Friday the 13th" cliché, complete with illustrating clips of similar lines from various slasher movies).
